Forbidden Love

Изображение
The Lovers II, 1928 by Rene Magritte It is obvious that the first thing that catches attention of a viewer is the kissing figures, placing in the foreground. Moreover, the woman and the man are kissing through the veils, which cover their faces and necks like a mask. Their clothes are rather official: the woman is wearing a red sleeveless dress, and the man is in a black suit, with a white shirt and a black tie. Speaking about the background, I can say that it is quite unremarkable, without any details or anything special, just two walls: a dark-blue on the most part of the background, and a bricked red one in the right; and a white ceiling in the top. Judging by the veils covering the lovers’ faces, they are seemed to be hiding, in addition, the room where they are staying is without any windows. Thus, taking into account all mentioned above, I suppose that here the act of passion creates a tense, mysterious atmosphere, where the lovers must have been frightened. Looking at t...

Are you happy with your body?

Cosmetic Surgery Nowadays the problem of cosmetic surgery is extremely popular and up-to-date. On the one hand, there are so many women who try to copy the features of flawless plastic dolls, like Barbie, widening their eyes, making nostrils smaller, putting collagen into their lips, adding implants, and so on. On the other hand, lots of women (and men also) protest and insist on accepting your own features. Thus, let us discuss the all the pros and cons to make up a conclusion about this controversial problem. Speaking about advantages of cosmetic surgery, the most people say that it gives them more confidence. If you are not satisfied with your lips, why do not you change it to be more self-assured? Maybe the nature did a mistake that makes you suffer? Moreover, such people say that there is nothing special in having a cosmetic surgery, because it is similar to having your hair dyed or teeth straightened. They claim that it is just a way to be well maintained. Nevertheless t...

Studies

My life absolutely changed since I had entered the NSU. Thus, in this short essay I want to share my ideas about studying at school and at the university. To start with, the hardest thing I faced with when I entered the university was to understand the system. I mean the so-called unspoken rules which everybody follow. For example, it is up to you whether you attend classes or not - nobody cares; or, for instance, if you want to know and understand any subject well, it is not enough to do all the home tasks – you need to find the necessary material on your own. Then, actually the most surprising   thing for me was the way lecturers explain the material. At school we were just to read different student’s books together with a teacher, but here lecturers explain the material with their own words and make it much more interesting. However, there was also an unpleasant surprise - the way we get marks. In the most cases it depends on your activity during seminars-if you are not r...

Modern Art is Similar to Vulgar or to a Deep Meaning?

Modern Art is Similar to Vulgar or to a Deep Meaning? Once upon a time, while discussing the modern art, my teacher had told me that any fool can make the same works as modern artists do. Indeed, we often have to listen that the works of 21 st century are vulgar and even raunch. Thus, the question that I have chosen to speculate about is: are the masterpieces of contemporary artists really such as described above or they hide a very deep meaning that could be interesting to think about? Let us see all the pros and cons. To start with, there is the opinion that there are a lot of modern works that are made ‘easily, without much effort’; therefore, they cannot be called the works of Art. For example, the installation by Glenn Ligon which is called “Negro Sunshine”, is made of cambered shining wire, hanging on a white wall – nothing special. Moreover, such people claim that the most of modern works are unaesthetic, especially in comparison with the masterpieces of 19 th cent...

Task 12

Should Celebrities Be Allowed to Keep Their Lives Private? Recently I have read an article written by a Justin Bieber’s fan, where she was complaining about him and his rude reaction on her friendly request to snap a selfie.   This story made me think about celebrities and their rights. Are they allowed to keep their private lives without the invention of fans and media? Or their choice of profession implies a permanent attention? Let us weigh all the pros and cons and decide whether they are to have their private lives, or they must just deal with the “occupational hazard”. On the first hand, speaking about the profession chosen by celebrities, we cannot deny the fact that being a “star” means being popular and under discussion. This is a huge business which makes a great deal of money. Then, being followed by the media is the best way for PR. For instance, Olga Buzova has become popular only with the help of the mass media and people who published photos with her. ...

John Cooper Clarke

I am an admire of punk rock music, that is why it was interesting for me to find out some information about John Cooper Clarke from the article called “ Send us your questions for John Cooper Clarke...” John Clarke, as you probably know, is the original punk poet, and he does not afraid to be radical. He has a big life experience, so he is a very interesting person to listen to. “Grampa” John affects different spheres in his works from social to even politics. And idea is that he writes in everyday words, without a gloss on things (with expletives and gags, simply put). In the article you can find some of his cool expressions. However, the main idea of the article is to encourage punk lovers to make up questions to John Clarke. I promise, I will! I also hope you are interested (or have got interested) in this person too, so do not forget to follow the link and send out some curious questions. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/oct/03/john-cooper-clarke-send-us-your-questio...
