Task 12
Should Celebrities Be Allowed to Keep Their Lives Private?
Recently I have read an article written by a Justin Bieber’s fan, where she was complaining about him and his rude reaction on her friendly request to snap a selfie. This story made me think about celebrities and their rights. Are they allowed to keep their private lives without the invention of fans and media? Or their choice of profession implies a permanent attention? Let us weigh all the pros and cons and decide whether they are to have their private lives, or they must just deal with the “occupational hazard”.
On the first hand, speaking about the profession chosen by celebrities, we cannot deny the fact that being a “star” means being popular and under discussion. This is a huge business which makes a great deal of money.
Then, being followed by the media is the best way for PR. For instance, Olga Buzova has become popular only with the help of the mass media and people who published photos with her.
On the other hand, there are several examples when celebrities’ relationships suffered from the invention of the media. Let us remember Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon, Pink and Carey Hart, Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo, and a lot of others.
Moreover, several days ago a famous blogger Maryana Ro, after several months absence from the YouTube, has published a video were she explained to her fans that because of a permanent persecution of them, she stopped visiting public places and even had to visit a psychologist for about a year.
Finally, there are a lot of cases when celebrities were imprisoned because of accuses of their fans.
To sum up, I can probably say that the negative effects predominate. That is why I would never accept that fact that celebrities are not allowed to have their private lives. By the way, I suppose that looking for mentally healthy stars is much more better then for mentally unstable ones.
